This lecture will focus on basic Moroccan Arabic (derija) and practical information on Moroccan culture. Basic greetings, introductions and pleasantries will be taught and their origins explained, as well as gestures and mealtime etiquette.

In this lecture, the plurality of meanings of the Arabic word jihad will be discussed, with particular attention given to the definitions ascribed to it in modern political contexts and in the news media.
