Our Name
Subul is the plural form of Sabeel, meaning a way or path. Salam or Silm means inner and outer peace and soundness. Thus our name translates as ‘paths to peace.’ The Holy Qur’an states, “And we have made of you nations and tribes so that you may know one another” (49:13). This verse is a clear invitation to intercultural dialogue, which leads the way to greater peace and security. Furthermore, the Holy Qur’an states, “God guides whomever closely follows his all-blessed satisfaction the ways of peace, and He brings them out of the darkness into the light.”
We believe that the way to peace lies in the realm of the heart, the sanctuary of divine peace and serenity (Sakeenah). It is possible to achieve this serenity by reaching a deeper understanding of others and, in turn, oneself. Through education, Subul Assalam is dedicated to serving as a way of peace and understanding for our students.
